How would you explain your job to someone who doesn’t know VFX?

Visual Effects is the movie magic that everyone talks about but doesn’t quite comprehend. A lot of digital work is done on a film after it has been shot and it is these works that are done by tens or even hundreds of people at the same time that brings the filmmaker’s vision to life.

As for paint work it varies, from the smaller things such as removing objects that distracts from the main focus of the shot, into larger things like set extensions, and detail oriented things like doing intricate beauty work. In reality it could almost be anything really.

What does a day in the life look like?

Personally, my day starts with a cup of ground coffee, and after that I go straight into checking if I’ve been given any task or if any of my current shots need additional attention. During the day I collaborate with other artists, leads, and supervisors who are just as or even more talented than myself to ensure that our work meets the high quality standards that is set by the Ingenuity team.

What are some of your favorite projects? Why?

The Studio reminds me why I work in the industry. Creative and non-creative challenges present themselves everyday and it's always a crazy adventure sorting those problems out.

What's something you wish people knew about what you do?

In a world filled with reels and TikToks of people time-lapsing their creative works and the current declining rate of people’s attention span, I wish people knew how much effort and of human touch is put into their favorite shows. A 5 second clip could amount to months of man hours with dozens of people working on said clip to ensure the visuals become the best they could be.

What is something that excites you about your career?

Everyday presents itself with a new set of creative challenges for me and the other artists to overcome, and as I strive for new heights within the industry. It is always such a surreal feeling for me to see my work being displayed on both the small and big screen.

Are you learning anything new?

I am very much still grasping the art of VFX compositing, but other than that I have also been taking courses on video coloring in Davinci and 3D blender work through YouTube. I am looking forward to being able to integrate those skills within my creative works

What do you like to do outside of work?

I’ve been making it my goal to take better care of my body recently so I’ve been consistently going to the gym and integrating it with my current lifestyle. I’m an avid movie goer, and I like to spend some of my time gaming, but I also do other outdoorsy stuff such as wall climbing, diving, archery, and go-karting, and I'm always down to try other things

What's the best advice you've ever received?

"Work hard, study well, and eat and sleep plenty! That is the Turtle Hermit way!"
