How would you explain your job to someone who doesn’t know VFX?
We write code to help automate, optimize, and solve any workflow issues. Our job is to make sure artists have the tools they need to create, resolve any issues that may be inhibiting them, and automate tasks to streamline more tedious/lengthy processes. Sometimes we’ll make tools based on problems we see or based on ideas/requests from the team.
What does a day in the life look like?
The day begins with going through emails and messages to check if there are any urgent issues that may have been flagged. From there I check in with the team regarding their progress, help with any blocks that they may have, and assist with brainstorming solutions. Throughout the day, I will meet and chat with other departments about their requests. As tickets and other problems arise, I prioritize and assign tasks according to the studio's need. Throughout the day, I will also ensure the scripts, documentation, and deployments are properly structured and fit our pipeline standards.
What are some of your favorite projects? Why?
I personally don't get to work on specific projects, but I was invested in projects like The Boys and Ted Lasso as I'm a fan of them!

The Boys - Amazon Prime
What's something you wish people knew about what you do?
That coding and creating tools is an incredibly involved and tedious process. Although not everyone believes it to be as simple as pressing a few buttons and letting the computer do the rest, it may still be more manual and complicated than what most people seem to expect.
What is something that excites you about your career?
The most exciting part is the people! I enjoy being able to hang out and work with those who share the same interests and passions. Bonus excitement is that I can get a sneak peek on upcoming projects!
Are you learning anything new?
I have just begun what seems to be a very long journey of trying to understand 3D printing and all the nuances that go with it. Professionally, I'm always growing my coding abilities and trying to keep up to date with all the technological and VFX advances out there!
What do you like to do outside of work?
Exploring Los Angeles and trying to eat my way through every interesting looking restaurant I come across.
What's the best advice you've ever received?
A lot of time and stress can be spent on things that cannot be changed. Focus on issues that can be solved and work on things that can be controlled.
