How would you explain your job to someone who doesn’t know VFX?

My job is helping creatives to visualize and refine the things they imagine for a project so that our visual effects teams have a clear guide with what to create.

What does a day in the life look like?

My typical day starts with a cup of coffee to wake me up, followed by a focused work session. After wrapping up work, I like to stay active by working out before calling it a day.

What are some of your favorite projects? Why?

Definitely Netflix's live action version of One Piece. I've been a One Piece fan for over 15 years, Oda is one of the authors that I respect the most.

What's something you wish people knew about what you do?

Concept art is sometimes not just about making pretty drawings, most of the time it’s about creating designs that are functionable in 3D and VFX. Many things that look really cool are very difficult to create in 3D and have work properly. By creating concept art, we help find ways to make everything possible within the visual effects world.

What is something that excites you about your career?

To me it’s all of the different creative choices from different directors and producers, it really opens my mind.

Are you learning anything new?

Before this job I almost never touched 3D, but now I’m start to know how to use Blender as a tool helping with my work.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Watching movies, reading comics and mangas.

What's the best advice you've ever received?

Hard work always pays off. Don't hesitate to keep challenging yourself.
